Missing AirAsia got an accident and search was suspended due to bad weather

Jusuf Kalla, Indonesian Vice President, said that AirAsia plane, which was missing yesterday morning, actually had an accident. No crews have made any statement concerning the status of the plane, though.

“It is very likely that there was an accident,” Kalla said in a press conference at Basarnas. The search has been running for 10 hours but no signs have been found.

Kalla also expressed condolences to the families whose relatives were on board the fight from Surabaya to Singapore. No one knows what would happen.

AirAsia flight QZ8501 has 162 passengers on flight from Surabaya to Singapore and travels over the Java Sea on early Sundy morning. Among the passengers are one Malaysian, one Singaporean, and seven AirAsia crew members.

Soelistyo, Basarnas chief, said that his team has suspended the search due to very bad weather and will begin searching again on Monday morning. They will concentrate on the Belitung Island.

The challenge for the search, according to Soelistyo, besides the poor weather, is the lack of tools and equipment to support the search operation. His equipment cannot detect anything deeper than 200 meters.

AirAsia was scheduled to arrive in Singapore at 8:30 and lost contact in Sunday morning over the Java Sea from Surabaya. About 149 Indonesians were inside the plane.
