In the first 20 hours, TorrentFreak reports that the movie was downloaded 750,000 times by users all around the world. The movie is also popular on YouTube and can be downloaded in 3gp, mp4 and mkv formats with various resolutions. The Verge says it is among the most popular list on YouTube, as reported by Mashable:
The site also points out that it was laughably easy for users who paid for a digital download of the movie on SeeTheInterview.com to download and reshare the movie, which might have contributed to its extra-fast spread on torrent sites.Have you guys watched The Interview or do you have any intention to download it from torrents or watch it from YouTube?
The numbers come as no surprise: The Interview, a comedy about an assassination of North Korean leader Kim Jong-un, garnered an enormous amount of attention after Sony Pictures canceled its Christmas premiere following a massive cyberattack on the company.
And though Sony eventually released the movie online, it is only (legally) available in the U.S., leaving torrenting as the only alternative for folks abroad.
The Interview, directed by Evan Goldberg and Seth Rogen, pits James Franco and Rogen as unlikely assassins of Kim Jong-un. The movie currently has an 8.6 rating on IMDB, and a 50% rating on Rotten Tomatoes.
